Hi, I’m Jacia Kornwise

And I’m on a mission to make dance the #1 tool for healing trauma.

Because throughout my life, and despite extensive professional training as a psychotherapist, dance has been the only tool that has consistently been able to bring me back to JOY. 

When I was 11, I was tall, thin, gawky and very shy. I had braces, glasses… and a mad crush on a 13 year old boy. When he asked me to slow dance at a party, I thought “this must be a
joke”...but the hopeful part of me was so excited to feel chosen and seen.

We start to dance, slowly, and I feel awkward. We’re a foot apart. It's uncomfortable. And then—he leaves me stranded on the dance floor. 

The other kids are pointing and giggling.

I turned red… And ran into the bathroom. 

Crying. Embarrassed. Ashamed.

And then, from the dance floor, I hear the DJ start to play my favorite song: “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor.

And I went out, and I surprised myself.

I boogied.

Against all odds.

Each week, I’ll invite you to explore a different theme and guide you through the process of understanding how your exploration will help you unlock your next level in life. 
These short recordings (typically under 15 minutes) give you a jumping off point for your journaling and dance practices throughout the week, and provide you with all the inspiration you need to encounter new aspects of yourself.

DAILY GUIDED DANCE PRACTICES

Once you’ve eased into that week’s theme, you’ll be presented with a variety of guided dance practice recordings to choose from. Your goal through this program will be to work your way up to 30 minutes of dance per day, with one session in the morning and one at night. (Psst—it’s completely OK if that feels like a lot right now. I have a process to help you get to that point quickly!)

WEEKLY GROUP COACHING CALLS WITH JACIA

Because a lot of STUFF is bound to come up as you’re dancing out your emotions and letting your pent up trauma go, we’ll meet every Tuesday at 5 pm PT (8 pm ET) for a Group Coaching Call, where you’ll be able to ask questions, get coached, and connect with other participants. These calls are not mandatory, but you’re encouraged to attend in order to get the most out of this program and fully immerse yourself in this process. These calls are not recorded to protect the privacy of program participants.

Week 1

How your Body Stores Experiences

This week’s lesson introduces you to the practice of tuning into your individual body parts as you begin to connect with your body through dance. As we kick off our work together, I’ll also walk you through what to expect from each week’s modules as you progress through this course.  throughout the week, and provide you with all the inspiration you need to encounter new aspects of yourself.

Week 2

Finding your Power Spots

In Week 2, you’ll reconnect with the songs that have moved you through each decade of your life and reflect on their meaning for you then vs. now, while remaining conscious of the fact that NOW is the only moment that really matters.

Week 3

Acknowledging your Body Signals

Our bodies are always communicating with us, and one of the ways in which they do that is by signaling a desire to open (expand) or close (contract). This week’s lesson will invite you to follow your body’s cues, expanding and contracting according to what YOU want to do, versus the generational standards you’ve been living by.

Week 4

Gratitude and How it Works for You

Noticing what you’re grateful for is immensely powerful when it comes to reframing your perspective. This week’s video lesson invites you to connect with gratitude and notice how different your body feels before vs. after you feel into what you’re grateful for.

Week 5

Facing and Embracing Fear

This week we’re engaging with fear—our own and that which may have been passed down to us from past generations. We’ll investigate how you, your family and your cultural heritage have held fear in the past, and then dance that energy out so that you can release, release, release that fear before we move forward to Week 6.

Week 6

Boundaries and Back Bone

In order to be fully comfortable in our bodies, we have to know we have our own backs! That’s why this week’s lesson will explore boundaries and back bone AKA having the guts to say what you mean and giving yourself permission to stand behind what you’re saying. 

Week 7

Your Relationship to Anger

Many of us have a complicated relationship with anger. Yet understanding and having a healthy way to release our anger is key to our physical, emotional and mental well-being. This week, we’ll explore practices that will allow you to safely take your power back and release pent up anger that is toxic in your system. 

Week 8

Your Relationship to your Mind

Do you think of your mind as a programmable thing? This week, you’ll learn how to go about reprogramming your mind to be your best friend as opposed to your harshest critic. Thanks to the work you’ve done so far, you’ll see the physical impact of your new thought patterns take effect with remarkable speed.

Week 9

Facing and Embracing YOU

Embracing and facing ourselves means being willing to look at what keeps our hearts closed. Too often, we store grief, pain and loss deep inside of us—far more than we realize. As a result, it blocks our hearts. This week is about loving and facing all of what holds us back, including our tears. 

Week 10

Forgiveness is for You

Without true forgiveness, we remain stuck in the toxic feelings that hold us back from fully embodying our true selves. This week, we’ll explore a profound practice that will help you bring peace to everything you’re holding onto. Expect to feel lighter, more joyful and more present by the time this week is done.

Week 11

Befriending your Joy

It might seem counterintuitive, but fully embodying and being present with our pleasure and our joy is one of the most challenging tasks we tackle in this program. Luckily, all of the progress you will have made over the past 10 weeks is exactly what will allow you to cultivate and embrace true joy in the penultimate week of Rise Up and Dance.

Celebrating You Every Day

This week’s lesson is all about celebrating your commitment to the practices you have put in place over the 12 weeks of this program, as well as feeling the full impact that Rise Up and Dance has had on your life. Q. I know you said everyone can dance, but I’m a REALLY bad dancer—is this still for me? 

Yes! Want to know how I know?

As your guide on this journey, I will not only guide you through the process of building a Conscious Dance practice into your life, I’ll also be there to help you process the information and emotions you encounter through the course of this program. 

In the context of both the weekly video trainings and the weekly group coaching calls, you’ll be gently invited to explore different emotions and elements of your personality you might not identify on your own, in the company of a Master Embodied Soul Coach with 30+ years of experience using dance to transform lives.

Q. I have bad knees / a bad back / 2 left feet. Can I still participate in Rise Up & Dance?

Absolutely! 

This course is meant for you to do at your own pace, in whatever way works best for your personal capacity. If your mobility is limited, you can dance from a seated position or lying down. If you have other physical limitations, you can adjust the movements to suit yourself as necessary. 

The ONLY thing that will determine your ability to experience results from this program is your willingness to explore your emotions through dance on a daily basis.

Q. How much time will I need to dedicate to this program every day?

Ideally, you’ll be able to set aside a minimum of 1 hour a day to engage in the transformational activities that make up the Rise Up & Dance curriculum. While that may seem like a lot, you are more than welcome to split that up into whatever chunks of time work for you, whether that’s 3x 20-minute sessions or 2x 30-minute sessions at the beginning and end of the day. 

This course is designed to work FOR you and work WITH your life. You can watch the video trainings whenever, wherever you have time, and attend the calls while sitting at your desk or while walking in the park.

Q. Will Jacia be able to coach me 1:1?

Yes! You can add 1:1 Coaching with Jacia to your Rise Up & Dance experience by upgrading to the VIP Tier. Simply let me know that you’re interested in VIP when you complete the application for Rise Up & Dance right here
